SYNOPSIS
Two girls drift through the city’s neon-lit nights, moving between fleeting intimacy and emotional distance. Beneath the noise of their subcultural world, both long for a connection that might outlast the night.
DIRECTOR’S STATEMENT
Blonde is the director’s cut of the music video for BrickleBerry’s single “A Seventeen-Year-Old Girl’s Golden Heart”. I wanted to stay with two girls and the moments of closeness and distance they share in the city at night. Beneath the expressive surface of their subcultural world lie loneliness, sensitivity and an unguarded longing for intimacy.
Drawing on the language of the music video, I use neon, darkness and fragmented editing to let the song’s rhythm meet the girls’ shifting intimacy. Through this, I explore the fleeting relationships of a generation: meeting can be immediate, while being understood takes much longer. The city at night holds their freedom and amplifies the loneliness that remains after the noise fades.
