SYNOPSIS

Made at the dawn of AI-generated video, PERSONAL DOCUMENTARY is a mockumentary with an AI protagonist. To me, artificial intelligence is charming and endearing. Its frequent errors and moments of confusion make it seem all the more human. Fascinated by the idea of giving AI a fully human personality, I imagined its inner world as it processes prompts, and conceived a fictional personal documentary told through its own experience.

Created in just a day and a half, the film combines imagery generated with Runway and Genmo with narration generated using Uberduck. Drawing on my own imagination and experience, I created an AI character with an Indian English accent, a taste for Americano coffee, and a story unfolding on its way home from work. Its visual language and editing reflect my love of glitch art and Kraftwerk’s music.

The film closes with a “lie”, leaving room for both the audience and myself to reflect. Making it was a joyful exploration, during which I felt a connection with the AI character—an experience I treasure.
